Pierrot XXI @ Bloomsbury Festival

Senate House, London
20 October 2022

We are extremely grateful to Community Jameel for their generous support of this project.

An immersive performance where you bask in a dream-like, mysterious, and ghastly atmosphere with atonal music, tarot cards and performers dressed in colourful costumes. We use tarot cards and visual elements, alongside Schoenberg’s classic Pierrot Lunaire, to shed light on human behaviour towards the environment.

Programme:
Schoenberg: Pierrot Lunaire, Op. 21

Musicians:
Clara Barbier Serrano (speaking voice), Nevena Atanasova (flute), Isaac Prince (clarinet), Thomas Ang (piano), Sherry Shen (violin), June Lee (viola), Erlend Vestby (cello), Owen Ho (conductor)

Biographies (that are short and not so typical)

Clara Barbier Serrano (voice) isn’t a barber but sings like Figaro and eats moons like Pierrot.
Owen Ho (conductor) is just someone who’s been called to wave the wand. More here.
Nevena Atanasova (flute/piccolo) loves the piccolo but her neighbours don’t. More here.
Isaac Prince (clarinet) usually plays in an uncomfortable suit, so tonight is quite a nice change.
Thomas Ang (piano) has learnt to push many buttons in the right order very fast. More here.
Sherry Shen (violin) is always up for a challenge. Pierrot is not challenging at all.
June Lee (viola) normally plays the violin but, look, she is playing the viola tonight!
Erlend Vestby (cello) enjoys cooking. Click here to see his menu of musical dishes.
