Composition Workshop & CD Releases @ KCL
“I had the pleasure of welcoming Ensemble Matters to King’s College London in 2022-23, during which time they workshopped, rehearsed and recorded pieces for voice and ensemble by two of our PhD students. Ensemble Matters played to a very high standard and operated with a very high degree of professionalism. Both Owen and the players had many constructive interactions with the composers, collaborating with them on solving any practical issues that arose. The final recordings are of an excellent standard, both in terms of the performances and in terms of the recording quality, and they have been released on Spotify and elsewhere. Here at King’s we hope to have the opportunity to work with them again in the future, and they look to have a bright future ahead of them.“
– Dr Edward Nesbit (Senior Lecturer in Composition at KCL)
In 2022, we engaged in a collaboration with the Department of Music at King’s College London to conduct workshops for two newly commissioned pieces by PhD composers, Sofia Vaisman and Sam Buttler. These workshops, held over the course of a year, facilitated fruitful exchanges and developmental sessions for the compositions. The collaboration culminated in a final recording session, resulting in the world premiere CD recordings of the pieces. These compositions are now available on major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Youtube Music, and Bandcamp.
Special thanks to Dr Edward Nesbit and Professor Silvina Milstein at KCL for making this happen.
Musicians: Aina Miyagi Magnell (mezzo-soprano), Nelson Sinclair-Strong (clarinet), Emma Gerrett (clarinet), Nok Him Chan (cello), Leah Park (piano), Owen Ho (conductor)
