4/4 Creative Residency Performance & Sharing @ Equivalentbehaviour
“The 4×4 Residency was so helpful in giving me the time and space to work on this new piece with Zoe. Getting to work with a musician from the start to end of the writing process allowed us to make a piece that was tailored not only to the double bass but to Zoe herself, and I’m incredibly proud of what we produced during the residency. The support provided by Equivalent Behaviour Studio and Ensemble Matters was amazing, and we were really happy with how the final sharing concert went.”
– Ollie Hawker (Composer)
As the final notes fade away, we bid a temporary farewell to our 4/4 Creative Residency, co-hosted with Equivalentbehaviour Studio. For the past several weeks, we’ve had the privilege to host our most talented artists, Ollie Hawker (composer) and Zoe Markle (double bass) and witnessed the birth of their latest collaboration.
From bold experiments with electronic and acoustic sounds, to new approaches to notation and performance, they have explored creative possibilities in the space we provided. We also had the pleasure of discussing their ideas and passions in front of our loveliest audience at this performance and sharing event, inspiring us all to see and hear the world in fresh and exciting ways.
We are especially grateful to our guest artists, Alexander Papp (composer) and Oona Lowther (cello), for their awe-striking opening improvisation on the cello and live electronics. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who made this residency possible. Special shout-out to Dante Bishop-Sauve for his amazing dishes!
